In 2020, the owners opened Doringbos for exclusive-use stays, inviting guests to experience this remarkable landscape and the lifestyle they have carefully cultivated within it. Inspired by a love of refined simplicity and a profound connection to the Cederberg, they have created a retreat that feels both elegant and effortlessly relaxed. What began as an ambitious vision—to acquire a pristine stretch of wilderness and build a home that belonged within it—has evolved into one of the region’s most distinctive private escapes. Dramatically positioned above the Doring River and perched along the edge of a cliff, Doringbos enjoys sweeping panoramic views across the rugged mountains, valleys and vast open skies of the Cederberg.

The property comprises a central homestead, four private cottages and a permanent tented camp situated beside a nearby pan. Accommodating up to 16 guests, Doringbos has been thoughtfully designed to preserve a sense of intimacy while offering ample space for families and groups. The main house features three en-suite bedrooms, while the surrounding cottages provide seven additional bedrooms, including five en-suite rooms and two sharing a bathroom. A ten-minute walk from the homestead, the secluded family tented suite offers a unique wilderness experience beneath expansive African skies.

At the heart of the property lies the main house, where generous kitchen, dining and living spaces invite connection, conversation and slow, meaningful living. An expansive terrace creates the perfect setting for long lunches, sunset drinks and memorable dinners under the stars. The surrounding cottages offer a greater sense of privacy, each featuring comfortable sitting areas, tea and coffee stations, wood-burning fireplaces and private terraces overlooking the dramatic mountain landscape.
Guests can enjoy two swimming pools at the homestead, while the pan area offers a completely different atmosphere. Here, a rustic boma with dining and bar facilities sits alongside a third swimming pool and a wood-fired hot tub, creating a magical setting for evenings spent beneath an endless canopy of stars.

Entirely off-grid and powered by solar energy, Doringbos embraces a sustainable way of life without compromising on comfort. Generators provide backup power when required, while select bedrooms feature air conditioning and all rooms are equipped with ceiling and floor fans for year-round comfort.
The farm itself is rich in wildlife and character. Eland, gemsbok, zebra and springbok roam freely across the landscape, while horses, donkeys, goats, chickens, geese, swans and peafowl contribute to the charm of daily life around the homestead. Many of these animals have been rescued and form a cherished part of the Doringbos story.

For those seeking adventure as well as tranquillity, the farm offers a wealth of outdoor experiences. Hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, fishing and horse riding provide countless opportunities to explore and connect with the surrounding wilderness.
